There’s a “doom baroque” quality to the songs here, showing what would have been if Sleep had found solace in Hawkwind as opposed to Sabbath(“Forgotten Goblin”). Or Uriah Heep and Black Mountain coming together in a fuzz guitar light show(“Sword Against Sorcery”), as well as touches of NWOBHM(“Wormhole”). And if you close your eyes during title track “Wizards of the Watchtower” you’ll swear you’re hearing Scorpions “Sails of Charon” reimagined for some 70s Giallo film.
